Photography is an art and Freestyle Motocross is beautiful. It takes a talented person to capture our sport’s beauty jump after jump and a lot of people don’t realize how important our industry photographers are. And this guy is quickly becoming a standard for Freestyle Motocross photography. Brandon Demelo is Canadian and is pretty cool, so check him out at BDemelo Photography.
We caught up with Brandon to talk about his program…
Who or what got you into photography?
Mark Phillips got me into photography, he’s a FMX rider and when I was 14 he lent me his Nikon D3100 to photograph him riding at my compound, ever since then, its just something I’ve been into.
What was the first picture you ever took?
My first picture was probably when we started getting ramps on our compound, my brother was 15 and was in the mix with all the 20 yr olds hitting that shit
What is your weapons of choice…
Definitely my Canon EOS 7D, I love it.
What is your type of riding or event to shoot?
My favourite would probably be freeride jumps out in our hills of British Columbia.
Besides FMX, what’s your favourite thing to shoot?
Besides FMX I like taking photos and videos with my friends street riding there BMX or skateboards, either that or lifestyle photos with my moto buddies.
Favourite picture you’ve ever shot…
My favourite photo would be Chris Nolan doing a Hart Attack with the British Columbia powder in the background.
Who is you favorite FMX rider to shoot with?
My favourite person to take photos would definitely be Javier Villegas, that guys is a nut ball and is so talented.
Do you have advice to any other photographers?
Just remember the creativity behind the photos. You’ll always learning new tips, compositions, and lighting. You can never learn enough and if you have the talent, never give up!
